Discover the Compacted Facts about Oily Skin Care

You've probably heard it a hundred times. Good oily skin care has one overriding focus--the maintenance of keeping it clean. Clean skin contains less oil. It facilitates development of a clear complexion. Some oily skin care products offer those with this dilemma an effective way to cleanse the pores. Such products gently lift the oil from the pores. They give the skin a chance to "breathe." Other oily skin care products remove dead cells from the surface of the face. If allowed to stay, those dead cells could work their way into the pores. Bacteria could then feed themselves from those dead skin cells. No article about oily skin care would be complete without mention of the word "bacteria." The oil and dead cells in pores can create an inviting home for bacteria. When bacteria begin to grow on the skin, it becomes red and infected. Those two features have come to represent two of the best-known characteristics of being acne-prone. Why do some people have such oiliness? Some people have been blessed with especially active sebaceous glands. The nose has some of the largest and most active sebaceous glands on the body. The neck, chest and back also contain areas with large and active sebaceous glands. The amount of oil produced by a person's sebaceous glands is determined by his or her DNA. Our genes direct the production of our hormones. The chemicals in hormones stimulate oil production in the sebaceous glands. Our genes also influence the speed and the extent to which each sebaceous gland responds to the body's hormones. In other words, genetics determines who will need to pay closest attention to the available information about oily skin care. Those who take the time to read such information will get some good news. This type of skin does not mature as rapidly as other types. People with skin that is oily seem able to hold-off the appearance of wrinkles. Of course that does not mean that those with this type of skin will never age. People with these problems, however, do need to use anti-aging products on their skin. Therefore, their chosen oily skin care products should include products that can also help to retard its aging as well. Such products should contain collagen. As found in nature, the protein called collagen has a fiber-like quality. That protein gives the skin an added amount of strength. It causes it to feel firmer. Good anti-aging products also contain elastin. Elastin is a protein that gives the skin flexibility. By learning about the function of collagen and elastin, an older adult can better appreciate the extent to which both proteins prevent the appearance of aging. Firm skin does not wrinkle and sag. When flexible, it has the ability to return to its original position, even after is has been pulled and stretched. Firm and flexible skin contains an adequate amount of collagen and elastin. When adults purchase for oily skin care, they need to look for products that can stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. Older adults do not benefit from using a product that can only fill-in the spaces between any wrinkle lines that have developed. By using the proper oily skin care products, adults can have a healthier glow. They can enjoy looking in the mirror. They can expect to see in the mirror a face with a more youthful visage.

Laurel is a dedicated researcher of skin care health and products. She shares her research on her website.
