Making Online Dating Safe

Today, more and more people are going into online dating. After all, it's not like you're in college anymore where you can easily meet people of your age group, and who share your interests. Online dating makes everything a lot easier, as you can easily meet up with anyone all over the world in just a matter of a few clicks. In fact, many couples who met at dating sites end up getting married! But although there are many honest people looking out for love in online dating sites, there are also those that are out there to deceive you or take advantage of you. Because of this, there are some things you have to remember to make sure that your online dating experience is safe. First, guard your anonymity. As much as possible, do not reveal any of your personal information too soon, especially if you do not know a person very well. Refrain from giving out your complete name or home phone number. Both forms of information are enough for someone to find out your income information, home address, and even the value of your home. Also, it might be a good idea to use a free email account. If you want to take your communication further than just using the anonymous email feature provided by most online dating services, then at least sign up for another free email account. Don't use your current email address. Rather, create a new one with just your first name in the "From" field, or another nickname. If you want to talk on the phone and get to know someone more, then don't ever give out your phone number. Either you give out a cell phone number, use Skype, or use an anonymous phone service. Again, this is just an added protection barrier until you get to know someone better. Ask for a photo and make sure it's recent. Appearance could help you determine whether or not you would like to correspond with someone. There's nothing wrong with asking for a recent photo. You should think twice before you join any of those free online dating services. Because the online dating service is free, then there is a greater opportunity for potentially dangerous individuals to lurk around. Absolutely free dating sites are easy targets for devious or insincere types of people because of the fact that it's free. Usually, those that choose to pay for online dating service are looking for quality both in the service and the people they meet. Beware of married people! It's sad to know that there are married people who use online dating services, even going as far as meeting people in person. Stand clear of married people - they will bring you pain and heartache. If you do decide to meet someone in person, then make sure you meet at a public place. You should provide your own means of transportation so you can escape at any time if you need to. Use this time to see whether the person is honest and truthful in their profiles. Do not allow the person to pick you up at your home. And, always make sure that a friend knows where you are and who you're with. Lastly, always trust your instinct! This is a very powerful tool in determining whether something is "off" with a person. A word of advice, remember not to be discouraged with all these safety tips. Your soul mate is probably one click away - just make sure that you do it safely.

Marvin Perry is the founder of Athletic-Dating.com, Marvin is an avid athlete and he has always had a passion for physical fitness. It's safe as long as you do not reveal to much of yourself before you feel ready (i.e. name, address) Always meet in a public place until you feel comfortable. It's really all about trusting your instincts.
